Project 2018

by on Dec.31, 2017, under Geeky, Literature, My Life

So over lunch yesterday, Jessica made me, Evan, Roni, and Deo write down our projects for 2018 to motivate us towards actual completion.

#1 and #2 are both me, but #3 is her suggestion, and now I am honorbound as an Elven Prince to actually do it. Well, try anyway. Ha!

(Do or do not, there is no try.)

Meanwhile, over same said lunch, we:

Gorged ourselves on delicious Negrense fusion cuisine (Sarsa’s menu is chocful of amazingly delicious food, including fusion Beef Rendang, Sisig Inasal, and Sinigang Fried Chicken Wings – you need to try this place out)

Manila So Mysterious

by on Nov.30, 2017, under Geeky, My Life

My friends and I have been getting a kick out of Mystery Manila. It’s an entertainment facility that specializes in themed escape room fun.

We first tried it in the Century Mall branch a few months ago, but we failed to crack open and escape their Mutants’ Mission, which is an X-Men inspired challenge.

Transit, Take Three

by on Oct.31, 2017, under My Life, Travel & Culture

It seems Malaysia is my transit destination this year. First was on the way to Myanmar in February, then en route to Persia less than two months ago. Now, for the third time, I find myself in Kuala Lumpur for about 18 hours, this time on the way to Maldives.

We chose to stay at the Capsule by Container Hotel right in the airport. It’s a transit accommodation option that allows up to 12 hours of stay. We’ve long wanted to try these capsule-type places if only for the experience, and generally we were not disappointed. The price was reasonable, the facilities sufficient, and the location convenient. My only minor complaint was that you can’t adjust the temp inside your “capsule,” and I prefer sleeping in a colder environment; however, other folks would find it just right.

Hungry For More

by on Oct.22, 2017, under Film & TV, Geeky, Literature, My Life

Just as I was finishing my article on Tabi Po the other day (as I normally write my posts in advance), I saw the official Tabi Po Facebook Page announce a contest! Talk about serendipity. They were having a launch party for the TV show, and creator Mervin Malonzo was opening up slots for interested fans through a contest. As this year seems to be my lucky year for winning online contests, I jumped in and gave it a try.

And what do you know? I got in.

Persia 2017 Post-Script: Friendly Faces

by on Oct.15, 2017, under My Life, Travel & Culture

As I’d mentioned before, I love meeting new people when traveling abroad. Ultimately, what makes a place warm and exciting are the people you encounter as well.

Iran, of course, is no exception.

In fact, contrary to what some people might perceive about Persians, they are actually some of the friendliest and most hospitable people I have met. They will show you a lot of interest when they realize you’re a foreigner, and by that I mean a sincere interest in getting to know you. They would even ask to take pictures with you, and if they find out you speak English, a number of them would even practice speaking it with you.

Persia 2017: Because we had to eat and sleep.

by on Oct.14, 2017, under My Life, Travel & Culture

And it was all so glorious!

Tehran

We stayed in Seven Hostels, a cheap yet very clean hostel. There were a lot of foreigners staying here, and the service and helpfulness of the staff were top-notch.
