Cowardice, Not Courage

There is nothing more disturbing than harmful “ex-gay” programs that purport to cure homosexuality under the guise of good and holy intentions.
Recently, I got caught in a comment thread of a Facebook page that popped up on my newsfeed for some reason. It was a post promoting a Catholic seminar that would help homosexuals “struggling with themselves.” Despite all flowery words used by the ad, this was clearly a “pray the gay away” program.
Blooming Orli
by allancarreon on Jan.13, 2017, under Film & TV, Queer
Orlando Bloom turns forty today, and he certainly doesn’t look it. The guy is just as near-immortal as his most famous alter ego, Legolas.
And yes, for the longest time, he was part of my Top Three hotties in the early 00s. In many ways, he still is (well, okay, Top Ten nowadays). How could you not fall for the guy when he looks like that? And he looks great whether blond or brunette (bruno?). He’s also a pretty versatile actor, and if the recent leaked pics of him are anything to go buy, he’s also pretty… gifted.
Orli will always bloom for me.
Happy birthday, Orli!
Suddenly, I miss my Calculus classes.

Ground Control to Major Tom

Has it really been a year since the legendary David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust himself – left us?
Clichéd as it may be, time does indeed fly by so fast. It was a year ago today that the iconic David Bowie passed away, just two days after his birthday.
It was a passing that left a mark upon the industry and upon the world, for David Bowie was not just any legend. He was a legend that inspired and influenced other legends, including Third Eye Blind and Madonna herself. That makes you one hell of a legend.
MMFF 2016: More Than A Woman (Die Beautiful)

Metro Manila Film Festival 2016: Some Spoilers!
Trans life is still largely misunderstood by most of society, especially Filipino society, which is ironic because our pre-Hispanic culture had very different views of gender roles. Unfortunately, colonization and Christianization suppressed our ancestral paradigms, leading to binary gender thought. Even with the increasing liberalization of LGBT politics in the last two decades, the “T” remains to be a constantly misunderstood segment of the community, with transwomen often mistakenly conflated with or confused for cisgender gay men who simply want to cross-dress.
While the topic of gender can take up entire books to thoroughly discuss, media has tried to bridge the gap – sometimes successfully (Transamerica, for example), sometimes not so much (countless awful examples I shan’t go into). Locally, there have even been fewer, and with some exceptions, representation has largely been relegated to funny (sometimes offensive) sidekicks.

George’s Last Christmas
by allancarreon on Dec.26, 2016, under Music & Theater, Queer
And this year, he doesn’t save us from tears.
Yet another legend passes on as 2016 continues its reign of terror so close to the New Year.
He was exactly 53 and a half years old.
George Michael was not just a respected music superstar. He was also an LGBT icon, one who struggled with his own sexuality at the height of his fame in the 80s and 90s until it finally caught up with him in that controversial arrest (seriously, I still firmly believe that was a major case of homophobic entrapment by the police, especially since the arresting officer tried to make $10M off of George afterwards).

Hardy Boy

Ever since I first saw him on Inception six years ago (wow, time flies so fast), I have been a huge, huge fan of Tom Hardy.
Not only does he look, well, just look at him, he’s also a mighty fine chameleon of an actor.
The lovely English actor has done the sociopath Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, the gritty Max in Mad Max: Fury Road, the cute Tuck in This Means War, and more. He’s been nominated multiple times for his acting across various bodies, including an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for The Revenant, and has won quite a number of them (no Oscar yet, though… but as with Leo DiCaprio, all in due time, babe).
