… as she celebrates her 63rd birthday today. And in her lifetime, she has become a living legend.

Who in the world by now doesn’t know the great Oprah Winfrey?

Here is a self-made icon who, through sheer perseverance and talent in an industry dominated by white male personalities, became the most powerful media mogul of all time. Beyond her talk show, she also made marks as an occasional actress and an author. She broke glass ceilings by being black, being a woman, and being the most successful amongst her peers (assuming she even has any) – hell, she’s the first black woman billionaire in history.

Oprah, however, is more than just her success. She achieved it through compassion and a genuine love for humanity. Her philanthropy has reverberated around the world, and she has inspired millions of women – and men – in almost every country there is that her 25-year show managed to reach.

However, no matter how much I say here, I think my queen Madonna said it so much more eloquently and in full when she gave her tribute to Oprah during the TV Special honoring the Oprah Winfrey Show right before it ended.

I wish I could’ve been there. Two of my favorite people, right there onstage!

(To this day, I still regret never having watched Oprah live in Chicago; I seriously hoped for years that I would get tickets to see her.)

Although Oprah’s talk show ended almost six years ago, she continues to inspire and be an influence – not just through her Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) shows but also by simply continuing being an advocate of humanity.

Happy birthday, Oprah!
