Skirting The Issue

Why skirts on men is even an issue is quite baffling, to be honest.

And this guy gets props for raising further awareness on why such gender normativity is ultimately meaningless.

And he’s cute, to boot. Mmm.

It doesn’t really matter if he’s straight or not. In this country, which has been influenced by Western binary gender norms, skirts = feminine, pants = masculine. It is to such an extent that even masculine cisgender male homosexuals and queers are expected to adhere to such a dichotomy, one that is a double standard when you think how acceptable it is for women to wear pants.

More importantly, the modern West seems to forget that men-in-pants is a relatively new phenomenon. For thousands of years, skirts (short and long) were worn by men of civilizations like the Greeks, the Egyptians, and the Aztecs. Even Medieval Europe still saw men in robes and frocks. To this day, skirts are commonplace in Eastern cultures such as those here in Asia (but not so much in Imperial Manila and other urban Philippine areas). Moreover, let’s not forget the Scots and their kilts.

So why is Western masculinity so fragile?

Besides, seriously, skirts are comfy as heck.

Maybe it’s time it made a fab comeback.

After all, even some Western men are advocating for it.
