Playing with Legends

It’s been a good week for a DC fan, what with the latest Wonder Woman trailer being released on the same day that the new DC Legends was launched. I’m still getting used to the gameplay, with some areas I’m still trying to fully understand, but over-all it looks promising.

For one thing, this game has Cheetah, Bizarro, Star Sapphire, Mirror Master, Dr. Fate, Black Canary, Huntress, and friggin’ Chemo on the roster. Yaaaasss!

The only gripes I have so far from what I’ve noticed: (1) one Deadshot skin looks way too much like Deathstroke; (2) Hal Jordan’s dialogue has too much forced humor, and they’re making him seem more like Kyle Rayner – which is not surprising considering they’ve been trying to transplant Kyle’s more interesting and accessible personality into Hal for years now (like Wally West into Barry Allen), and (3) the game seems too internet-dependent.

For that last one, when you consider the ball of fun that is internet connectivity in the Philippines, it means that one can’t really play this without being online. That’s unfortunate because, during my daily commute to and from work (enduring the other ball of fun here: awful traffic), there’s a stretch of highway that I pass through that’s an internet deadzone. So then I won’t be able to play this game to get my mind off the traffic situation.

Well, at least there’s still Injustice: Gods Among Us, which (not counting the MP section) one can still play without internet connectivity.

Meanwhile, here’s some initial gameplay I recorded from my first day on the app. I put it on “auto” so that I can just observe how best to strategize next time. This was me prior to obtaining Deadshot and Cheetah, both of whom were powerful enough (for now) to oust Batman and Flash from the team. I did replace Deadshot with a strong Green Arrow later on because of Oliver’s excellent area attack.

So far, as of this writing, I only have nine characters. I’ve been advancing pretty fast, though (yes, I’m prone to such obsessions), and I’m hoping to expand my collection quickly. Hopefully, I get at least a couple more in the next few hours – there’s an ongoing “Timed Event” that looks to drop a Joker skin.

And we all know how enamored DC is with the Joker, so it will probably be pretty powerful.

Must. Have. That. Stat.

Over-all, DC Legends looks worthwhile once you get into the hang of it, so let’s see how it goes. If you enjoy these types of games, I think you’d want to at least give it a shot, too.

A Deadshot. *teehee*
